Password Protection

Stop. Do not provide your password to anyone—keep it private and secure. Your password is your key to your Viewpost® account. To prevent unauthorized access to your accounts, it is very important to keep your username and password confidential.

Why Passwords are Important

Your password to your computer, email, e-commerce websites and Viewpost account need to be protected by you. Your password is the key to many of these services, and if it is compromised or weak it can allow others access to your sensitive information and financial transactions. If you use the same password for multiple websites, a compromise on one site or leak can put your Viewpost account at risk.

Protect Your Passwords

The first step in password protection is keeping them secret—do not share your password information with anyone. Following are some simple and important steps to help protect the confidentiality of your passwords:

  • Use a unique password for each online account or application
  • Change your password periodically
  • Don’t post your password on or around your computer
  • Immediately change your password if it becomes known to anyone else
  • Never give your password to anyone over the phone

Create a Strong Password

It’s hard to create a complex password that you’ll actually remember—we know. We have a few tips to help you create a stronger password for the ultimate security blanket:

  • Avoid words that would appear in a dictionary, as they can easily be compromised by a password hacking program
  • Use a combination of upper- and lower-case letters
  • Incorporate at least one number and one special character (! # $ % * ( ) – + = , < > : : ” ” .)
  • Use a minimum of 8 characters
  • Don’t use your or family member’s name, nickname, or initials in any scenario
  • Don’t use your username within your password
  • Avoid information that can be easily obtained about you, such as birth dates, phone numbers, license plate numbers, social security number, street addresses, and pet names
